Complex or higher-risk services such as specialist behaviour support, restrictive practices, high intensity supports and some other supplementary modules can involve requirements that warrant appropriately qualified or specialist input.

It is to stop straightforward providers from assuming they must spend thousands before they are capable of even beginning registration.

Do you actually need to become registered?

Not every NDIS provider currently needs to be registered.

Unregistered providers can generally work with self-managed and plan-managed participants, while NDIA-managed participants generally need to use registered providers. Some types of supports also require provider registration regardless of how a participant's funding is managed.

Registration requirements are continuing to change, so providers should check the current requirements with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission before deciding whether registration applies to them.
